Tigers Topple Texas 82-77

The Missouri Tigers take care of business at home against Longhorns

On Wednesday night at Mizzou Arena, the Missouri Tigers (19-7, 7-4) defeated the #15 Texas Longhorns (20-6, 6-5) by the final score of 82-77.

Missouri played perhaps their best game of the season, and got outstanding contributions from a number of players, as Coach Anderson utilized 10 players liberally.  Mike Dixon and Miguel Paul were terrific off the bench, as Dixon (13 points) may have played his best game as a Tiger.  Keith Ramsey went to the bench to a standing ovation in the closing seconds with a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) in what was probably his best game as a Tiger.  And, Kim English played the best game of his life, and led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points on only 10 FGas.  But, it was the other things that English did on this night that elevated his game.  For several minutes early in the second half, English played with a fury that I've never before seen from him, defending, rebounding, and attacking the basket.  For a few minutes a little later in the second half, Ramsey took over on both ends of the court, defending, rebounding, and scoring around the
basket.

Missouri outscored Texas in the paint 44-30, and with second-chance points 16-12, and the Tigers outscored Texas 24-10 at the FT line, and scored 25 points off of 18 Texas turnovers.

After the game, Coach Anderson talked about the win.  "It was a hard-fought game.  Our bench was a big difference in the game.  I thought our pressure defense really was a difference maker in this game."

Coach Anderson talked about the game that Kim English played against Texas.  "He was in the flow.  I thought he played one of his better games.  He really let the game come to him."

Coach Anderson talked about the contribution from Mike Dixon.  "He stepped up big time for us in a big-time way.  His energy was really contagious out there.  He and Miguel Paul, I thought they came out there and gave us some great energy............ I thought our defense was the difference in this game."

Missouri scored 50 second half points, as the Longhorns appeared to begin to tire, and the Tigers were quicker to the ball going down the stretch, and at times, were beating the Longhorns down the court.  That's where Dixon and Ramsey really came up big.
