One Tennessee high school basketball prospect has traveled great distances to arrive at his long time goal to play big time Division 1 hoops.

Memphis and Nashville basketball standout Martino Brock has been working hard for the last year since graduating to make his way back to Division 1 basketball. The talented basketball player has played the last year at the Maine Central Institute in efforts to raise his test scores.

The one time Southeast Missouri University commitment, decided to de-commit from the other in state school once its head coach was dismissed.

“After their head basketball coach was dismissed I didn’t feel it was right for me anymore,” Brock told InsideMizzou.com. “I have been working hard the last year to get my test scores; I think I may be close to accomplishing that.”

According to Brock he has two official visits set up in the near future; he will visit Kent State April 25 and the University of Missouri on May 1.

“I can’t wait for the Mizzou visit,” Brock said. “It’s based on me receiving my test score back, hopefully everything will work out.”

When did Mike Anderson and the Tiger basketball staff begin recruiting Brock?

“They actually began recruiting me while I was in eleventh grade,” Brock said. “I moved around a lot and then with my grade issues they backed off a little.”

Other schools that recruited Brock out of high school included Nebraska, Auburn and Southeast Missouri out of MCI.

Brock took the ACT last Saturday and is hoping for a great score. He needs a 17 or 18 to qualify.

“If that score comes in my dreams begin to come true,” Brock said. “Missouri is definitely my number one choice. If they offer I will commit on the spot, no doubt about it. I love their control style of chaos.”

Brock has another connection to the Missouri Basketball program.

“One of my best friends plays there,” Brock said. “Lawrence Bowers and I have been friends since middle school. He loves it at Mizzou, he tells me how great it there and how I would fit in there.”

What are the Missouri coaches telling Brock?

“They are telling me to take care of my grades and that everything else will take care of itself,” Brock said. “Hopefully my hard work will pay off.”
