Growing up in Wentzville, Mo., it was natural for Timberland High School junior Nick Demien to become a Mizzou fan, and having a former Tiger in the family didn't hurt either.
“My uncle actually played at Mizzou.” said Demien. “I don't know what year, but he played for Mizzou, so I always grew up watching Mizzou and following them.”
At 6'6”, 295 pounds, Demien is projected as an offensive lineman at the college level. Some have him pegged as a guard, but when asked where he saw himself playing in college, Demien answered left tackle.
Demien's only offer so far is from the Iowa Hawkeyes, but he said he's been receiving mail from numerous midwestern schools, and it sounds like he'd like to see a little more mail from one in particular.
“I do have interest in Missouri.” said Demien. “They've not contacted me a whole lot. I get things in the mail every now and then, and I went to their one day camp at William Woods over the summer.”
Demien was in attendance during Mizzou's games against Kansas and Oklahoma this past season, and said he intends on visiting another Missouri camp this summer, but isn't planning to be at Mizzou's junior day later this month.
Don't look for an early commitment from Demien, as he seems to be in no hurry to make a decision.
“I really haven't looked at that, as far as where I want to go yet, because I'm still a junior. I'd definitely like to see more offers roll in the door and have more to work with.” Demien said.
Though he's not close to making a decision yet, he does know what he's looking for in a school and football program. “I would like to have a nice campus, good academics.
And then when it comes to the football part, you know, how their offense is ran, meet the coaches and see if the coaches are good people, kind of a combination of it all.”
Demien runs his 40-yard dash in five flat, and views his mobility as a strength.
“I think I can move pretty well for being so big, side to side, forward and back.” He said. “I think moving is one of my attributes.” Demien garnered first team all-conference, all-district, all-metro, and all-state honors during his junior season, and helped pave the way for Wisconsin commit Montee Ball.
Demien is also a standout wrestler, winning a conference title in the heavyweight division his sophomore year.
