Mizzou In Good with '09 Star Point Guard
"If I had to say, I'd probably say Mizzou was my favorite … They're pretty high on my list," said Dixon, a quick, heady point guard who averaged 16.8 points, 6.6 assists and 2.3 steals while shooting 88 percent from the free-throw line as a sophomore.
Dixon has been to MU on several occasions and has developed fondness for the Mizzou staff, which began recruiting him after his freshman year.
"I really like them because they really bring a family environment to you. When they talk to you, they're really friendly people," he said, adding that head coach Mike Anderson is working on him to commit early.
"They're on me really hard. They really want me to commit early," he said. "Coach Anderson tells me that this is the head coach that really wants you, this is the head coach, and he really cares about you."
Playing at sparkling Mizzou Arena during MU's elite camp also made an impression.
"You can tell they've got good money [invested] in their school and their program, and that's something I like," he said.
Still, Dixon isn't interested right now in making any quick decisions.
"I just want to enjoy it. With AAU call, recruiting is a big part of it, so I don't want to ruin that," Dixon said.
He probably won't decide until next summer at the earliest, and is interested in the big-name schools that are recruiting him as well as the possibility of playing in the Pac 10 because he loves the West Coast.
"I'm open to anyone. I tell anyone who calls that I'm open to them," said Dixon, who is regarded by many as a top-10 point guard in the national class of 2009. "When Ohio State called, I was really surprised because I didn't know that they knew who I was. That's the way it works, though, you don't know who knows about you until they call."
Dixon has also visited Saint Louis and Kansas, and has plans to visit Purdue and possibly a couple of other schools later this summer. Kansas State and Purdue might be close to offering, while Creighton and Missouri State have offered.
Though his excellent quickness and soft shooting touch have made him an accomplished scorer, Dixon said his biggest strength is his ability to get teammates involved and create scoring chances for others. Mizzou's chances with him, meanwhile, appear to be quite good at this early juncture.
