Tyler Wilson Talks Missouri

In its search for a quarterback to potential replace Chase Daniel in a couple of years, the Missouri staff seems to have set it sights on a small handful of targets. Among them is Tyler Wilson, with whom InsideMizzou.com caught up for an update on his recruitment.

Wilson, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound gunslinger from Greenwood, Arkansas, holds offers from Mizzou, LSU, Alabama, Oregon, Arizona, Kansas and Tulsa. He recently visited LSU and was wowed by the visit, but did not commit. He also took a trip to Missouri ths spring for a combine and came away very impressed.

So, is Mizzou somewhere Wilson can see himself playing?

"Definitely. It's not too far from home and it's somewhere my family could come and see me play games," he said. "Coachj [David] Yost and I talked yesterday and he's a great guy, and Coach Pinkel has them headed in the right direction. I think they'll only get better."

A prolific passer, Wilson is regarded by some of the top quarterback in Arkansas. As a junior, he racked up 4,222 yards and 50 touchdowns en route to all-Conference and all-state honors. In the state championship game, he led his team to victory by throwing for 582 yards and six touchdowns.

So it's no mystery why so many schools are interested in the cannon-armed rising senior. The most recent suitor is Oregon, which offered Wilson two days ago.

"It is [a possibility]," Wilson said. "They run an offense that is a lot like we run in high school, the spread offense."

Mizzou, of course, runs the spread as well.

"The University of Missouri is a great school and is right at the top right now, along with LSU, Alabama and Arizona … Also, I have a grandfather who graduated from Missouri, so it's kind of in the family," Wilson said, adding he was impressed with MU's facilities and the intertwinement of academics and athletics within the program.

It's anyone's guess when Wilson will pick a school. And that includes him.

"I planned to make a decision in mid-August, but I'm not sure. I'm gonna go through this process and view all of my options."

Wilson had a visit scheduled to Arizona this weekend, but plans changed and he didn't make it. He doesn't know when his next trip will be, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him make a choice before the summer is through, as quarterback scholarship offers begin to dry up.
