The most impressive thing was hearing from most of the top prospects in attendance how Missouri was their top choice. That is something that until recent years was rarely heard in early June if at all.
The usual top prospects that showed up were impressive.
Chris Brooks is just an amazing athlete who looks the part just walking across the field but also turned in good numbers during the testing phase and looked really good during receiver drills. His commitment to Mizzou is solid.
Tailback A.J. Jimmerson from Hazelwood Central showed off his 4.4 40 speed during testing and was joined by his Hawk team mates DB Clayton Davis and TE Kazeem Alli in having a good camp. Davis is a player to watch as interest will increase. Alli, who was disappointed in his bench reps, said that outside of letters the interest from the Missouri'scoaching staff hasn`t really been there.
Kyle Calloway, 6`7" 270 OL/DT Belleville East is an impressive athlete who is also a pretty decent basketball player. He is receiving some lower level D1 interest in basketball, too. His good footwork and quickness that I have seen him use playing hoops showed during drills. He runs very well for a kid his size and showed good strength during bench press testing. Calloway, who is also being recruited by many Big 10 schools and Notre Dame and also attended Mizzou`s junior day, said," Missouri is currently my number one choice". The Tigers have not offered yet, but it appears that if they do, Calloway would accept. Calloway is being recruited as an OT but would prefer DL and has an aggressive playing style.
Ashton Farmer, 6`5" 210 TE/WR from Charleston also had an impressive camp turning in good numbers and looking good during receiving drills showing good hands and athletic ability. Farmer is also one of the top basketball prospects in Missouri and told me he is receiving some interest in that sport from Missouri Valley schools. He and his parents expressed their interest in Mizzou for football (The basketball program is not currently recruiting him) and said that they are at the top of his list for football. While Farmer has flown under the radar to a certain extent thus far, expect interest in this fine athlete to accelerate this fall.
Massive DT Anthony Jackson 6`4" 324 from St. Louis Sumner was in attendance and his people said he was very interested in Mizzou. They also told me that they are working with him very hard on a program to get him in better shape for the season. Jackson who has great quickness and feet for a man his size, will benefit greatly by getting in the best shape he could.
Todd Shelton, 6`4" 251 DL/OL from Berkeley/McClure South is a D1 prospect to keep an eye on. He performed well during testing and drills and Coach Parker said that Shelton has a lot of interest in Mizzou should their recruiting efforts for him pick up.
Players who impressed:
Chris Brooks - Top prospect at camp in my opinion.
Houston Jones, QB ATH – Impressive athlete ( 4.5 40/ 33" vertical) who could play several positions.
Kyle Calloway, OT- Showed his athleticism off and work ethic.
Ashton Farmer, TE/WR- A impressive athlete that reminds me of Justin Gage. Good kid with a great family.
A.J. Jimmerson, RB – Speed kills, and it's a nice bonus that he can catch the ball so effectively out of the backfield.
Clayton Davis, DB - Impressed me with his on field play last year, the right people are taking notice from camps.
Chris Jackson, RB – Continues to get noticed as he makes the camp rounds. Good speed and moves. He could also play DB at the next level.
Brice Beck – Out-of-state QB is a big, strong kid with a good arm and a decent athlete.
Other notes: Kazeem Alli TE - Does not look like the Tigers are very interested at the moment.
David Allen LB/S- Heard some say his 40 time, among other things, disappointed.
