On Sunday, Missouri received a verbal commitment from 2014 LB prospect Roderick Winters 6’0” 200 Arlington (TX) Bowie. Afterwards, Winters spoke with ShowMeMizzou.com, and he talked about becoming a Missouri Tiger.
Winters said that he called Missouri Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach Dave Steckel on Sunday to inform him of his decision.
“It feels great (to be a Missouri Tiger)!” said Winters. “It is pretty exciting!”
Winters chose Missouri over offers from Central Oklahoma, New Mexico State, North Dakota, Sam Houston State, and interest from Baylor, Iowa, and Louisiana Tech, among others.
“Coach Steckel said that he is happy for me,” explained Winters. “He said that he’s going to set me up for an official visit for after the season.”
Winters had taken an unofficial visit to Missouri in June, after which he had received his Missouri offer. He liked Mizzou from the start.
“I was weighing all of my options, and Missouri was the biggest and was the best for what I want to major in, which is engineering,” explained Winters.
Winters has been timed at 4.52 seconds in the forty-yard dash, and he has posted a 39” vertical jump. Winters has a personal best of 275 pounds maximum in the bench press. He also has personal bests of 21’5” in the long jump and 46’4” in the triple jump for his school’s track team.
He said that Coach Stec has indicated that Missouri will put some weight on him after he gets here.
“I’ll probably end up playing at around 225-230 (pounds),” explained Winters, who is known as a big hitter, but who is also good in coverage.
