Big 12 Preview: Week Thirteen

Eight teams are in action over the three days of Thanksgiving as the Big 12 heads toward the end of the regular season.

The Big 12 has put two teams in the BCS five times in the 14-year history of the structure. The league could claim that accomplishment again this season, as Kansas State and Oklahoma are vying to remain atop the league standings and high in the BC rankings.

Big 12 teams are averaging just four punts per game -- the lowest such mark among all FBS schools.

Baylor and West Virginia can each get bowl eligible with one more win. If both achieve that goal, nine league teams will be playing in the postseason.

  • TCU travels to Texas, where the Longhorns have righted the ship after a pair of mid-season losses. TCU is solid, but not enough to overcome a Longhorn team that's now playing up to its potential.

  • Baylor hosts Texas Tech, with the Bears coming off a huge upset of K-State and the Red Raiders entering with a disspiriting loss to Oklahoma State. Will the Bear's quest for bowl eligibility and the momentum of a win be enough to silence the Red Raiders' guns? If it's a shootout, the Bears are more capably armed, so the home team gets the nod.

  • Homestanding Iowa State locked up a bowl bid last week. Visiting West Virginia needs a win to do the same. It's the Cyclones' last home game of 2012, and Senior Day to boot. WVU is in near-desperation mode, and that factor might outweigh the homestanding Cyclones' emotion. Call it the Mountaineers by the narrowest of margins.

  • Bedlam features two teams playing very well right now, but Oklahoma has a little too much talent for Oklahoma State to overcome, especially on the road. OU will have to drop its 4-1-6 defensive look against the well-balanced Cowboys, but if it does so, it has enough talent to get the win.
