Sioux Falls (SD) Roosevelt sophomore offensive tackle Grant Schmidt is a big, talented youngster who should be heavily recruited over the next couple of years.

The state of South Dakota has produced a few Division-1 talents over the last few years. While the quantity isn't high, the quality is there. In the 2015 class, they may end up with one of the top prospects in the Midwest, as Roosevelt High offensive tackle Grant Schmidt has the look of a future big timer.

At 6'6, 265-lbs with athleticism and strength, Schmidt is a big reason his team is in the playoffs, looking to repeat as state champions. The pressure of stepping into a successful program as a sophomore starter was there, but thanks to a little help from his friends, he has turned into a force to be reckoned with.

"It was definitely tough to get the hang of it at first, but when I learned our spread offense completely and met my new teammates, I was really comfortable with it. I was also very excited to take my gameplay to a new level on a new stage. The biggest change though was going from a three point stance to a two point stance. It was a huge challenge."

The recruiting has started too, and while it is early, Schmidt should hear from many more programs over the next few years.

"I have definitely heard from some schools. I've gotten a lot of cards and stuff like that, and I have gotten talked to by coaches in the smaller D2 schools in South Dakota. I've been invited to a couple of college games but have not taken up the offer. I plan to do that in the near future."

A big Midwestern kid, Schmidt says he has followed big Midwestern teams.

"I have always grown up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I really enjoy a lot of the chances I have to play in big venues in front of thousands of people so its a very nice place to live. I did follow a couple specific schools. I've always enjoyed watching Nebraska play. I love that they're in the Midwest and still do some of the things that people do in high school. Lately I've enjoyed watching Missouri because they run the exact same offense as us to the play."

A hard worker, Schmidt is hoping to turn his love of training into a career at some point, and what we can be certain of is that the school that lands him will be getting a true student-athlete.

"I absolutely love lifting weights. It would be very exciting to go into college as an exercise physiology major or even physical therapy. I am also a great math student so architecture could be in the mix too."
