Abbington:"It's a Great Day To Be A Tiger"

New Missouri Tiger 2013 football commitment Chase Abbington talks to ShowMeMizzou.com about his decision today to commit to his home state school, and what he sees in his and the Tigers future.

Recruiting has been a whirlwind for Ft. Zumwalt (MO) South 2013 RB Chase Abbington, as in just a few weeks he started picking up offers from schools such as UCLA, Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska,Iowa and others, picking up 8 total offers in a short period of time.

The speedy tailback decided today that he knew where he wanted to go to college and play football, so he ended his recruitment early with a verbal commitment to the University of Missouri.

"I have been thinking about it (committing) for the past few days a lot," said Abbington. "I loved it from the start at Mizzou, and going up their just made me realize that there is where I wanted to be and where I thought would be best for me over the next 4-5 years."

Chase told me weeks ago that his Mother liked the way the Tiger coaches were recruiting him, and the only thing keeping him from sealing the deal was that his Mom wanted to check out the school herself before giving her blessing.

"My Mom is getting married, so today was the only time she had to check out Mizzou before she would be too busy to make the trip up there. So, we went up and she saw everything and met every coach on the staff. She loved it too and really liked the coaches and felt like it would be the best place for me,too. She likes the thought of being able to see me play,"said Chase.

Right before Chase and family were about to leave, they met with Coach Pinkel in his office to say goodbye.

"We were saying goodbye and Coach Pinkel said today would be a great day to be a Tiger...that everyday would be a good day to be a Tiger for me. I said, you're right coach, today is a great to be a Tiger, because I am a Tiger."

"Coach Pinkel was very excited and went out to tell his staff the good news. It was great to see everyone so happy with my decision,"said Abbington.

Chase said that besides the academics, that Missouri's coach staff being full of "good people" help him make up his mind.

After talking about his own recruitment and decision, Abbington started talking about helping bring the rest of the top prospect in the state with him for 2013.

"Mizzou is gonna be great! The move to the SEC is awesome, and I want to make sure and help bring more great players to Mizzou to help us win a National Championship. So, I am going to talk to Trent Hosick and Ezekiel Elliott and the other top players and try and get them to join Dorial (Green-Beckham), myself, Maty (Mauk) Donavin Newsom and the rest to of us to come to Missouri and win the SEC and a National Championship."

I asked Chase how he would feel about having another highly rated running back like Elliot join him in the Tiger's backfield?

"I would love it! I want him to come to Mizzou and will tell him that. There is room for both of us to carry the ball. We both have to compete and the best player plays. However, in the SEC they will need more then one back, and I can be the big back you need in that league, but if not and he would beat me out, then I know I can help the team and they can use me in other ways to win. My first thoughts are all about the team winning, but I will tell you that my personal goal is to bring a Heisman Trophy to Missouri," Abbington said.

Chase told me that with recruiting behind he can focus solely on track, which starts March 20th.
