2013 In-State Athlete Picks Up Missouri Offer

ShowMeMizzou.com continues to keep you udated on the top Missouri 2013 talent, and talks to one of the top 5 prospects in that class that picked up an offer from the Missouri Tigers on Thursday. Story and junior highlights inside.

The Missouri class of 2013 may not produce the #1 recruit overall in the nation, but it is certainly stocked with some big time athletes and football players who are already catching fire in the recruiting world as colleges come knocking at their door for their services.

One such 2013 player is O'Fallon (MO) Ft. Zumwalt South RB/S Chase Abbington 6'4" 210 (4.49 -34" vertical) who added to his fast growing list of offers with one from the Missouri Tigers on Thursday.

Abbington, who earlier this week picked up offers from Arkansas, UCLA and Nebraska, spoke with ShowMeMizzou.com about this latest offer from the Tigers, as well as the previous three leading up to it.

"Getting my Missouri offer is really nice," said Abbington. " I knew I would be hearing from them from what my coach said. It's great to have an offer from them. I've always like Mizzou. I never really had a favorite team growing up except Cincinnati, where I am from and have family at,but, I like them and they will definitely be in it with me. My Mom was really excited. You likes the thought of me being able to play close to home and liked what the Tigers had to say."

Chase, who ran for 1,459 yards and 27 touchdowns as a junior, and also had 35 tackles and 2 picks from his safety position, told me that the Tigers could see him on either side of the ball as a player.

"They are really cool and will let me decide where I want to play, but I heard that Coach Jones wants me at running back and Coach Steckel wants me at safety after they saw my film. Coach Ford said I could see time on both sides of the ball and that it would be up to me and where I would have the most success."

Abbington was also invited to Missouri's junior day that is happening tomorrow, but he already made a date to attend another SEC schools junior day event before the Tigers extended their offer.

"I would have liked to go to their junior day on Saturday, but it's the same day as Arkansas', and I already committed to going to their junior day, so I gotta keep my word on that. I will be going down their with my family this weekend. I do plan on probably driving up to Missouri sometime next week or weekend to check it out with my family," said Abbington.

It's been a whirlwind week for Chase Abbington, who picked up offers from UCLA and Arkansas on Monday, and then Nebraska on Wednesday, and Missouri on Thursday.

I had Chase give me his thoughts on each of the four schools he has offers from so far.

Missouri-"Awesome school! Gonna be in the SEC which is big and the best conference there is. I would like to play in the SEC if possible. They just got the number one player in the country, so that would be pretty cool to play with him and see what that's like. I like the coaches and my Mom likes how they have handled things with me, and that I would be close to home. They will be in it to the end,"

Arkansas- "Great school! The coaching staff is awesome! Coach Paul Petrino is my recruiting coach, and I really like him. He talks to me on my own level and I like what he has had to say. They are recruiting me as a running back. They like big running back and I have heard I remind them of McFadden."

UCLA- "Coach Klemm, my recruiting coach is a cool guy. I don't know too much about UCLA, but I want to see it. I don't think I will be able to do that until I would take an official visit since it is so far away. They are recruiting me as an athlete."

Nebraska-"I'm a little more at home with them. My high school coach is from Nebraska and we use a lot of their stuff with our team. Their coach had some good things to say. They are recruiting me as a running back."

All this recruiting attention comes as a bit of a surprise to Abbington.

" I wasn't expecting this. Once my film got out there and schools saw it, they just started calling and offering. It's been crazy!"

Analysis: Chase Abbington is a tall, lean athlete that could play multiple positions in college on either offense or defense. He has great speed and athleticism which he uses well with the ball in his hands running it or receiving it. Very physical player who likes contact, but is pretty adept as eluding defenders. On defense he covers a lot of ground, hits big and plays well in coverage.

ShowMeMizzou.com will continue to follow Chase Abbington's recruitment through singing day 2013.
