Florida Basketball Recruit Enjoys Missouri

The Missouri Tigers basketball program has been working the recruiting trail hard for 2012, and ShowMeMizzou.com talks to a recent visitor to get his thoughts on Mizzou

Last weekend, Missouri hosted several basketball visitors, including 2012 combo guard, Shawn Smith 6'4" 186 Jacksonville (FL) Arlington Country Day. The talented guard took time to visit with ShowMeMizzou.com, and he talked about his Missouri visit, and his recruitment.

"(The visit) went real well," began Smith. "I liked the campus. It was nice. I got a chance to talk with Coach Haith for a good forty-five minutes. It was nearly an hour. We had a good conversation. He was just telling me how they're losing some guards."Smith indicated that he met a couple of other 2012 recruits, who were there visiting Missouri at the same time, including Rodney Purvis and Steve Taylor. He said that the three of them developed a good relationship, and spent the evening together, and got along real well.

"I played against (Rodney) this past high school year," explained Smith, who is known as a very good defensive player. "We ended up beating his team."

Smith takes pride in his defense.

"Oh yeah! Offense is going to come," explained Smith. "Defense is the main thing to worry about!"

Smith described his offensive game.

"Getting to the basket," said Smith, who finishes with either hand. "Most definitely, get to the basket. Knock down open jump shots, and try to get my teammates involved as much as I can."

Smith is comfortable with his jumper inside and outside of the arc. He's also a very good FT shooter.

Smith is planning to narrow down his list of schools at the "end of this AAU season". He said that Missouri will "most definitely" be on that list.

"I know for a fact that Missouri, Miami, Texas, South Carolina," said Smith, "I want to say Kansas State, Florida State, Florida, and Cincinnati will definitely be on there."

"I'll probably commit sometime during my senior year," said Smith, who indicated that he would "probably" sign in the spring, after taking his official visits.

Smith talked about what he's looking for in a school.

"Just a coach that's not going to just say that I'm going to come in and start," began Smith. "A coach that's going to make me work. And, a school that I know I can go in and feel comfortable. Somewhere that I can fit in, and just feel comfortable, feel right at home with it."

"I think Coach Haith is a good coach," said Smith, who reports that he has a Missouri offer. "I know the guys that he recruits. He doesn't like to recruit guys with bad attitudes. I know that about Coach Haith. Everybody that he's bringing in would be a team player. So, I think he's a real good guy, and a real good coach. So, I would definitely love to play with him. That's why I'm keeping them in my top five."
