Texas LB Claims Tiger Offer

The Missouri Tigers continue to look for defensive help at Linebacker in the state of Texas

The Missouri Tigers have made major strides in their defensive play during the 2010 football season.

One of their strengths has been the linebacker position, but with two of their starters graduating this year, they are looking for more linebacker help in the 2011 class.

ShowMeMizzou.com has learned that Spring (TX) DeKaney linebacker prospect Rodney Young 6'2"210 4.5 forty has picked up an offer from the Tigers recently and plans to visit Mizzou when his schedule will allow.

I spoke with Dekaney head Coach Willie Amendola regarding his player to get some thoughts on what he would bring to a college program.

"Rodney is very smart, fast and athletic. He is about 6'2"210lbs and plays will linebacker for us. His father, who coaches defensive line for us, is a good sized guy and Rodney can get bigger and play either inside or out in college most likely. He is our team captain and a three year varsity player. He is also been All-district all academic as well as All-district in football as a junior. He told me about his Missouri offer today and is pretty excited about it. He likes them a lot",said Amendola.

Tiger coach Brian Jones, who recruits the Houston area, stopped by Young's school last week according to Amendola.

ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with Rodney Young about his offer and thoughts on the Missouri football program.

"I was very surprised and excited. I hadn't heard a lot from Missouri, but they had seen one of my games and some film on me. I have talked with coach Jones and he had said that they liked my speed, how I  contain and my coverage abilities, and that the staff would be evaluating me. When I was told I had an offer it was very exciting."

Young isn't new to getting offers from top programs. His coach and father told me that he was up to around 12 offers overall from schools such as Boise State,Northwestern,Kansas State,UNLV and UTEP among others.

Also a standout baseball player, Young described his speed, athleticism and ability to do well in coverage as his strengths.

He also said that he was working on becoming more physical, an aspect of his game he felt he could improve on to reach his full potential.

Rodney also described what he would be looking for the most in a college he planned on attending.

"I plan on doing a lot of research on my own about how each school does academically with it's players. Academics is very important to me. I also plan to see how each team does this year, and on my visit I will watch to see how the coaches and players interact and the coaching styles" said Young.

He plans on majoring in Biology in college and would like a career in the medical profession.

I asked the speedy linebacker his thoughts on the Missouri program and if he had a top list of schools at the moment.

"Mizzou is a good program.I have watched them for awhile and I hope to learn more about them. I like Mizzou right now a lot. I would say my top schools are Missouri, Boise State, Northwestern and UNLV."

Young plans to visit Missouri, possibly sometime after the season, because of his busy football schedule.

"We don't have any Thursday games left and my schedule will determine when I can visit. I look forward to getting up to Missouri and checking things out."

Rodney Young self reported a 4.54 forty time along with a vertical of 32", bench max of 275lbs, 555lbs squat,285lbs power clean, and 235lbs incline.

He also reported his season totals to date as 42 tackles,3 sacks, 5 tackles for loss and 1 INT.

ShowMeMizzou.com will continue to follow the recruitment of Spring( TX) LB Rodney Young for 2011.
